DREAM ARCHIVE

Same Reply

A few days ago, I had AI write something for me.

I no longer remembered much about what I had asked for.

I read the reply a little, then closed the screen.

I did not save it.

At the time, that had been fine.

But later, one sentence started bothering me.

I could not remember what the sentence was.

I only felt that if I read it again, I would know it was the one.

I asked for the same reply as before.

The AI answered right away.

It felt similar.

But there was no sentence that clicked.

I asked again.

Make it closer to the reply from before.

Another reply appeared.

This one felt similar too.

But it was not the same.

After I tried several times, similar replies lined up on the screen.

They all seemed somehow familiar.

But each one was a little different.

I gradually became less sure what the reply from the earlier conversation had been like.

Had that sentence really been there in the first place?

Maybe I had only skimmed it, then later decided it had been important.

Still, I thought I would try one more time.

In the input box, I typed, The previous reply.

Then I started to add, the same sentence as closely as possible.

That was where my hands stopped.

The words came first, just a little.

This was it, I thought.

It probably was not exact.

It might have been different from whatever had been in the earlier reply.

But the sentence I had been looking for seemed to take this shape.

I did not delete the words in the input box.

I did not send them either.

I opened a new note and copied only that sentence into it.

Then I saved it.

On today’s conversation screen, several replies remained, similar but different.

None of them was the same.

But in the note, one sentence remained.
